Summary
Experimental rats were observed for one reproductive cycle on stock food, and for 10 cycles on experimental rations, to determine the effect of primary, secondary and tertiary Ca phosphates fed at a high Ca level. At a level of 2. 45 per cent. Ca and with Ca: P ratios of 2. 0, 1. 63, 1. 15 and 1. 0, the average weights of young at 21 days were 37. 3, 46. 4, 40. 0 and 33. 5 g. respectively. The range of Ca: P ratio which allowed optimum reproductive performance was thus between 1. 7 and 1. 2, and was much narrower than that previously found for low Ca levels. The primary Ca phosphate was unsuitable for reproductive success at this Ca level, and the tertiary phosphate was slightly superior to the secondary.
