It feels like a lifetime ago when Resident Evil 6 hit store shelves and the Resident Evil franchise as a whole seemed to be knocking on death's door. Capcom has done an incredible job of bringing the Resident Evil series back to life over the last seven years, delivering an innovative new experience with Resident Evil 7, experimenting with that formula further with Resident Evil Village, and producing a handful of great Resident Evil remakes that have put classic entries in the hands of new fans.

Though exact figures and statistics are hard to come by, it seems likely that Resident Evil's recent sales have at least met Capcom's expectations, with Resident Evil 4 Remake selling over 8 million copies as of last month. It also seems likely, then, that Capcom won't want to shake up its recent Resident Evil launch cycle anytime soon, which means that a new game announcement could be right around the corner. And if Capcom repeats a pattern it's been slowly forming for a few years now, that new Resident Evil reveal could end the year in style.
